Frequently asked questions.

Direct answers about coaching, assessment, pricing, scheduling, injuries, nutrition, mobility, and youth training.

Who is Dakota's coaching for?

Dakota works with active adults, recreational athletes, climbers, outdoor people, youth athletes, and people returning to progressive training after appropriate rehabilitation. Clients do not need to be elite or highly experienced. They do need to be willing to communicate, practice, and participate in the process.

Do I need to be in shape before starting?

No. The starting point is based on your current ability, training history, goals, and readiness. The plan should meet you where you are without assuming you need to stay there.

What happens during the Discovery & Assessment?

The appointment includes a detailed conversation about your goals and history followed by movement, strength, mobility, coordination, balance, gait, or performance measures that are relevant to your situation. The session lasts up to two hours and concludes with clear initial priorities. Dakota then prepares a brief Coaching Map and recommendation.

Why is the first appointment two hours?

People often need time to explain their history, ask questions, explore movements, and understand why certain priorities matter. A longer appointment allows Dakota to gather useful context without rushing the conversation or forcing every assessment into a one-hour template.

Are normal coaching sessions a full hour?

Yes. Monthly plans include full 60-minute appointments. A session may contain a readiness check-in, preparation, training, instruction, education, and a closing plan depending on what is most useful that day.

Can Dakota work with pain or a previous injury?

Dakota can modify exercise around known limitations and help rebuild general strength and physical capacity when training is appropriate. He does not diagnose injuries, provide medical treatment, or replace a physical therapist or physician. Medical clearance may be requested when symptoms, health history, or a recent procedure make it appropriate.

How is this different from physical therapy?

Physical therapy is healthcare focused on evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation. Dakota's role is fitness, physical preparation, movement education, progressive strength, and athletic development. The services can complement one another when responsibilities and communication are clear.

What is assisted mobility and PNF stretching?

These sessions combine active movement, assisted stretching, contract-relax methods, and end-range control. The objective is to develop usable movement options and teach strategies the client can continue practicing independently.

Does Dakota offer soft-tissue work?

Dakota's mobility sessions may include active mobility, assisted stretching, PNF methods, and guidance in self-directed mobility practices. Contact Dakota with questions about the exact format and whether the service fits your needs.

How often should I train with Dakota?

Most clients use four, eight, or twelve sessions during each monthly billing cycle. The right frequency depends on goals, experience, budget, schedule, and the amount of independent training a client can complete effectively.

Why are the plans based on monthly session totals?

A monthly total keeps billing and scheduling clear even when a calendar month contains five occurrences of a normal training day. Foundation includes four sessions, Momentum includes eight, and Performance includes twelve.

Is remote or hybrid coaching available?

Yes. Hybrid plans can combine in-person coaching, independent programming, video review, check-ins, and program adjustments. The exact structure is agreed upon before coaching begins. Dakota does not offer a proprietary app.

What is included in a monthly retainer?

Depending on the tier, a retainer may include full-hour appointments, independent programming, plan adjustments, progress reviews, limited form review, and reasonable business-day messaging. Each tier lists its exact session and support allowance.

Where does coaching take place?

Dakota is based in Black Mountain and serves the greater Asheville area. Exact locations depend on the type of coaching and current facility arrangements. Any separate facility, admission, or travel cost is disclosed before booking.

Does Dakota provide nutrition coaching?

Dakota may provide general food, lifestyle, and habit education consistent with his qualifications. He does not provide medical nutrition therapy, prescribe therapeutic diets, or treat nutrition-related medical conditions.

How does youth coaching work?

Youth coaching is available for small groups, teams, camps, or parent-organized groups. Programming is age appropriate and begins with a conversation about the sport, developmental level, schedule, training history, and expectations.

What happens if I cancel a session?

Sessions canceled at least 24 hours in advance may be rescheduled during the current billing cycle when space is available. Late cancellations and no-shows generally count as completed sessions. Full details appear in the Coaching Agreement.

Can unused sessions roll over?

Sessions are intended to be used during the current billing cycle. When timely notice is provided but Dakota cannot offer a reasonable make-up time, one session may carry forward for up to 30 days. Sessions do not accumulate indefinitely.

Can I pause my plan?

A planned pause of up to 30 days may be available with advance notice. Recurring appointment times cannot be guaranteed during or after the pause. Medical and other exceptional circumstances are handled individually and according to the Coaching Agreement.

Will I be asked for medical clearance?

Possibly. Clearance may be requested when current symptoms, health history, recent surgery, medication considerations, or another concern suggest that medical guidance is appropriate before exercise begins.
